It was a cold spring evening at Eagles Stadium Thursday, but it didn’t take long for the East Grand Rapids girls lacrosse team to get warmed up, as the Pioneers defeated Grand Rapids Christian 26-6.
Audrey Whiteside scored the first two goals for East Grand Rapids before the Eagles scored to cut the lead to 2-1, but that was as close as Grand Rapids Christian would get. The Pioneers surged to a 17-4 halftime lead.
After the half, it was more of the same, as the Pioneers outscored the Eagles 9-2 after the intermission to account for the final 20-goal margin.
Whiteside and Grace Griemsman each finished with six goals for the Pioneers, and Sophie Forstner added five. Other East goal scorers were Mary Schumar with three, Sophie Dozeman and Aneesa Berner with two, and Ella Gourley and Anna VanderLaan with one apiece.
Audrey Monahan scored a pair of goals for the Eagles.
Lily Kate Rogers earned the victory in goal for East Grand Rapids.
