Thomas Davis scored two goals to lead Grand Rapids Catholic Central past East Grand Rapids 4-2 Thursday night at Patterson Ice Center.
Ben Forstner gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first period when he slammed in a pass from Mike Malewitz for a shorthanded goal early in the second period. It was Forstner’s 51st goal and 111th point of his high school hockey career, with Malewitz involved in a great many of them.
Catholic Central scored a shorthanded goal of their own soon after, though, and then went up 3-1 on a pair of power play goals after the Pioneers took two penalties to give the Cougars a five-on-three advantage. In the third period, East closed the gap to 3-2 when Jake Adams scored from Colin Stecco and Jake Stewart. Davis finished the scoring when his point shot found its way into the Pioneer net to give Catholic Central the 4-2 victory.
Gerrit Hoogenraad earned the win in goal for the Cougars, stopping 35 Pioneer shots, including all 15 he faced in the first period.
